Established in 1988, the Bahrain National Museum displays remnants of rich cultural heritage of Bahrain, giving visitors an indication of ancient and medieval Middle East.

The Bahrain National Museum was unveiled by H.H. Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the then Amir of Bahrain. Every section of this museum projects the Bahrain history. The tourists can also take a tour to the aquarium, exhibition halls and national library located in the same civic complex when visiting the museum.

Considerable portion of the Bahrain National Museum is dedicated to ancient Dilmun civilization. The artifacts and archeological ruins of the past are the main components of displays in this museum. The Museum is under the administration of Ministry of Cabinet Affairs and Information of Bahrain.

The Bahrain National Museum is a non-profit organization dedicated entirely to the cause of art and history. The Museum is located between Bahrain Manama City and Muharraq, overlooking the ocean.

Being one of the oldest museums in Bahrain, located near the King Faisal Highway, the museum covers 27,800 square meters and comprises two buildings. The US$30mn complex includes three halls devoted to archaeology and ancient Dilmun civilisation, while the other two halls display the culture and lifestyle of recent pre-industrial past. Another hall focuses on the natural environment of Bahrain, and includes flora and fauna.

Bahrain National Museum comprises several conservation laboratories, photo labs, administrative offices, lagoon, library, restaurant and car parks. In short, everything ranging from ancient artifacts to Quranic manuscripts, and from historical documents to remarks on astronomy, are all found within the Museum. There is also a gift shop in the museum which offers handicrafts such as baskets, pottery fabrics, books, postcards and souvenirs.
