Bahrain has some old remains of temples and forts, and one famous archaeological site in Bahrain is the Barbar Temple, located in the Barbar Village. It is actually the remains of three different temples built one on top of the other.

The oldest temple is built around 3000 BCE and is dedicated to Enki, the God of Freshwater. Radio Carbon Dating established the second Barbar Temple in Bahrian around 2500 B.C., while the third one, excavated by Danish team, is estimated to have been built between 2100B.C. and 2000 B.C.

All the temples are made of limestones, and the remains of these temples have uncovered two alters, and a natural water spring. The excavators were however baffled by the fact that it involved several weapons, tools, pottery and small pieces of gold found in ruins of Barbar Temple in Bahrain. These are now displayed at the Bahrain National Museum.
