Before travelling to Bahrain, or to any other place for that matter, a comprehensive travel and medical insurance is a must. It is better not to regret having travelled without travel insurance at a later stage.
It is wise to check if your policy covers major aspects such as medical and health cover for any injury, or sudden illness abroad, 24 hour emergency assistance, personal liability cover, lost and stolen possessions cover, cancellation or curtailment cover (in case you happen to cut short your trip), and extra cover for activities not included in standard policies such as skiing or other sports activity. The policy, should ofcourse, be covered for the entire time period that you stay in Bahrain.
Also check if your policy includes personal accident cover, cover for legal expenses and financial protection (in case your airline goes bankrupt during your trip).
Just as it is important to check what is being included in insurance, it is also important to note the aspects that are being excluded from the policy, like for instance, several policies do not include cover for drink or drug-related aspects. Also, it will be better if you have a policy that covers terrorism, as majority of travel insurance policies now include terrorism.
Moreover, a good insurance policy will also cover for cancellation or cutting short a trip due to accident, pregnancy, illness, home emergency, jury service, redundancy, bad weather and strikes. Check if the policy offers complete refund of your holiday, and covers extra cost if any, needed to get home.
Some other aspects to be discussed are whether your policy covers personal liability insurance, which is usually offered in case you accidentally cause an injury to someone or damage their property. Similarly, a personal accident cover can be of help in case of a personal accident payment to be made for permanent disability or death. Also, check to ensure if the policy covers stolen, lost, or damaged possessions, and legal expenses, if any, when in Bahrain.
So, check to find a reasonable price from a good insurance provider, taking into consideration the aspect of single trip insurance / annual trip insurance depending on your needs. Some companies cover one or two aspects like wintersports cover or kids cover, free of cost as an added bonus. So it is vital to discuss all these details with your insurance provider.
