Bahrain marks a milestone with the launch of NSF

The Bahrain Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa together with Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, has officially opened the UK Naval Support Facility (NSF).

According to Prince Salman, maintaining close ties with international partners and allies form an essential part of Bahrainís comprehensive development programme, led by King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

Speaking to the media, he mentioned that the launch of NSF in Bahrain is a major milestone for Bahrain. The joint efforts of both nations to support regional security and stability indicate the strength of ties between the two countries.

Defence co-operation between the two nations has played a major role in ensuring stability and peace in the Gulf for more than 90 years. King Hamadís constant support toward bilateral ties has served to deepen friendship and co-operation across a range of areas, he said.

The Duke of York highlighted the role of King Hamad and Queen Elizabeth II in strengthening bilateral ties, and pointed out that NSF would help in serving the common interest of both countries.

The Duke of York also emphasized the eagerness of both countries to further develop the horizons of co-operation and expressed confidence in the growing partnership between Bahrain and the UK.

The NSF can house about 500 Royal Navy Personnel, including soldiers, sailors and airmen, and is the first British permanent military base in the Middle East in more than four decades.

The Foreign Minister in Bahrain, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmad Al Khalifa said that the launch of NSF marks the beginning of a new chapter in a defence relationship that has strengthened ties between the two Kingdoms.

The strong partnership between Royal Bahrain Naval Force and Royal Navy form a vital part of ties between the two nations, he said, while also appreciating Royal Navyís support to Bahrain and its allies, within the Gulf region and beyond.
