Bahrain ranked as second best in the world for expats to work

Bahrain has been ranked the second best country in the world for expats to work, according to a new survey from HSBC.

Bahrain surpassed the UK, USA and Switzerland in terms of career opportunities, progression and satisfaction.

The survey revealed that the top five countries for expat workers were all located outside North America and Asia, with Germany bagging the first spot.

As per the responses of 22,318 expats working in 163 countries, the report measured the destinations that were considered best for international works, as per a series of metrics such as work/life balance, earning prospects and career development, and found that select nations in the Europe, Middle East and Africa regions scored high.

The Head of HSBC Expat, the offshore banking arm of HSBC Group, John Goddard mentioned that ranking may provide inspiration for those seeking a boost in their careers with a move overseas.

When it comes to career, there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution. But, if you are looking for a career inspiration, it may be worth going beyond the borders of your home country to find a place where you can thrive at work.

Britain topped the list of best places for expats to work, even as the government works to tighten restrictions on foreigners entering the country.

Growing 10 places up the rankings this year was Bahrain, which won the favour with expats, thanks to its enviable remuneration packages.

About 77 percent of expat workers reported better earnings prospects in Bahrain than in their home country, marking a 62 percent growth than last year. Further, the additional relocation benefits that the expats received for making the move included accommodation allowance (69 percent), airfare stipend (68 percent) and medical packages (64 percent) were among the perks typically received.

Apart from an attractive remuneration package, life in Bahrain looks good on the career development front. Bahrain pays more importance to relationships, and more than 50 percent of the respondents said learning to navigate those have helped them be a better leader.

World's best top 10 countries to work in 2019 are:

1. Germany
2. Bahrain
3. UK
4. UAE
5. Switzerland
6. Sweden
7. Singapore
8. USA
9. Canada
10. Hong Kong
