Bahrain set to open the largest under-water theme park in the world

Bahrain has decided to surprise its visitors with another record-breaking attraction this summer, with the opening of the largest underwater theme park in the world.

It would serve as the new playground for divers, covering over 100,000 sqm and will feature interesting exhibits on the seafloor. The centrepiece of the exhibition will be a Boeing 747 aircraft that is eventually likely to turn into an artificial coral reef.

The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) created the project together with the Supreme Council for Environment and private sector. The amusement park should be eco-friendly too.

According to BTEA, the jumbo jet will be specially prepared before being lowered into the water.

All aircraft surfaces would be subjected to a high-pressure wash with bio-friendly detergents to ensure that all post-production coatings, oil and grime are removed. Moreover, considerable amount of time has been invested in removing contaminants from the aircraft including plastics, rubbers, chemicals and other potential toxic substances, a spokesperson said.

There will be artificial coral reefs, a replica of Bahraini pearl merchantís house and art sculptures that would provide the diversí the option to discover the rich marine life of Bahrain in unusual surroundings.

The theme park reflects the growing interest in underwater tourist attractions. This opening of theme park in Bahrain follows the other recent openings such as an underwater hotel in Maldives, and underwater museum in Americaís Florida, wherein diversí get to enjoy art and sculptures.
