Khalifa Bin Salman Port to be unveiled on 6th December
The new state-of-the-art Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP) in the Kingdom will be officially unveiled by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the Kingdom of Bahrain during a top level inauguration ceremony to be held on Sunday, the 6th December 2009.
The inauguration marks a major milestone in Bahrain’s maritime and economic development and represents another landmark result of the wise growth policies that have been implemented during the past decade of His Majesty’s reign.
This major event comes within days before the Kingdom celebrates its National Day, and will be attended by high ranking delegates from the government and private sectors.
The Chairman of GOP, Shaikh Daji bin Salman bin Daji Al Khalifa, said that the port will boost the Kingdom’s economic status on a regional and international level, and is on par with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030, and will solidify its prominence among the shipping hubs of the region.
With the latest technology and under the operation of international port experts APM Terminals, KBSP will bear a huge impact on increasing efficiency of cargo movement and will help in establishing Bahrain as a major transshipment hub for upper Gulf region, he said.
Spreading across 110 hectares of reclaimed land along the northeastern shore of Bahrain, KBSP began operations in April this year and offers services to shipping lines and logistics companies with highest international specifications and standards in the industry.
The port benefits from its strategic location near Bahrain International Airport, and the roads leading to King Fahad Causeway and Saudi Arabia. The capacity of the terminal is 10,800 TEUs ground slots with a five container high, which is fout times the capacity of Mina Salman Port in Bahrain, which has been the main port in Bahrain for the last 50 years.
The new port has the capability of receiving even the largest container ships crossing the Arabian Gulf, and serves as a major driver in the increase in foreign trade. It is further complemented by the new Bahrain Logistics Zone, a one million square meter area which caters to logistics companies from across the globe.
