Bahrain to set up new Tourism Authority watchdog
A Tourism Authority will be established in Bahrain, as a part of plans by the Kingdoms Supreme Committee of tourism to regulate the sector and toughen measures against violating hotels.
The Culture Ministry is preparing to present the law to the Parliament.
The decision will be published in the Official Gazette shortly, said Dr. Isa Amin, the Under-Secretary. The 10-member watchdog will be responsible to take care of the tourism sector, which will operate as an independent unit under the Ministry.
It will comprise three members representing hotels and travel and tourism agencies, while the remaining will represent government bodies, headed by a Chairman. The tourism sector under-secretary will be the Chief Executive of the Authority, and all tourism employees will be transferred under it, said Dr. Amin.
The Ministry is also in the process of establishing a Supreme Council for Tourism. The Minister, Shaikha Main bint Mohammed Al Khalifa will submit a memorandum to H.R.H. Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.
