Subway railway system planned for Bahrain
Experts are considering a proposal to build a subway railway system in Bahrain, similar to those in New York and London.
Plans are also underway to build a nationwide railway system by 2030, as it would cover a distance of nearly 200kms by then.
The Director - Road Planning and Design at Works Ministry, Huda Abdulla Fakhroo, speaking to the media, explained that the Ministry is seriously considering setting up an underground railway within the country to tackle the huge traffic expected in future.
Currently, the transport system is being studied, taking into account this aspect, as also the economic viability part, he added.
Fakhroo was speaking on the sidelines of the three-day Infrastructure Middle East Conferences and Exhibitions 2011, being held at the Gulf Convention Center, Gulf Hotel, under the patronage of Works Minister, Essam Khan.
