Omaira Avenue shopping mall to be officially unveiled by the year-end
A shopping mall, located on the troubled Zaid bin Omaira Avenue in Bahrain, which was remaining vacant for years after construction, is finally getting officially unveiled by the year-end, senior municipal officials said.
The complex, worth BD630,000 was ready after construction in 2007, with a private firm being appointed to manage the property on behalf of the Northern Municipality, under the Municipalities and Urban Planning Affairs Ministry.
But, the company was removed from the responsibility, when it failed to attract any tenant, revealed Yousif Al Ghatam, the Director-General of Municipality.
The Municipality took up the responsibility of the mall and rented out 60% of the space, and this is hoped to fill by the time of its official opening in December this year.
The mall was marred by the street violence at Zaid bin Omaira Avenue. The Municipality expects a revenue of BD60,000 annually, by renting out shops. It aims to fill the complex by the time of official opening by National Day celebrations in mid-December.
Now contracts have been signed for supermarket, women’s and children clothing shops, perfumes and phones shops, stationery shop, flower shop, gift shops and children play area, he said.
The Municipality will open an office in the mall for the convenience of residents of the area to access services.
